Protecting the Leuser Ecosystem rainforest from encroachment through community empowerment
We have started this initiative journey since early 2020 by mapping forest damage around Batee Meucanang Village, South Aceh. As a village located in the Leuser Ecosystem Area and the buffer zone of Gunung Leuser National Park, it is very unfortunate to see how social inequality affects the decisions of local people, where indications of forest damage and their choice of work are interrelated. The lack of access and involvement to them has further changed the governance of forest areas. We were motivated to find solutions and began to involve local people to be part of Jejak Rimba Raya to raise their awareness of existing problems and change their work to be more sustainable.

Forest Monitoring
Our forest monitoring activities are based on contributions from parties and visitors from services or program initiatives to reduce forest encroachment activities carried out by various parties.
Community Empowerment
We believe that to achieve every mission of this journey, the involvement of the community at the grassroots level is a form of interconnectedness in realizing forest protection efforts. We have gone through this through a learning and training process to increase community capacity, division of roles and responsibilities in program implementation, and equal access for the sustainability of our programs in the future.
Wildlife Protection
To ensure a safe space for the status of wildlife in forest areas, we are conducting habitat mapping initiatives and identifying the presence of species through analysis of the results of the data collection we obtain. So that we will use this data to socialize wildlife protection to residents who garden in forest areas, for campaign activities, and the creation of protection policies, or for other related interests.
